Happy 2011

Monday, January 17th, 2011

Happy new year! I hope everyone had a good christmas. It’s been a while since my last update I know and I did promise a trailer soon, but don’t worry, you’ll get to see that in a second!

The picture cut on “Broken” is almost complete, with the sound mix and grading set to take place before the end of January. Myself and Paul Dudbridge had a joint wrap party (together with his short film “Maria”) with cast and crew Friday night, where we showed the trailer for the first time, which you can now view below.

I worked with a new composer on the trailer, Kevin Hoover, who’s done a really nice job and I can’t wait to let him loose on the finished film. I’ve also been planning a new short film for February, entitled “Intruder”, which will shoot over 3 days like “Broken”, this time on the Canon EOS 5D camera. I’ve been doing some camera tests with the DP and they look really good. It will be interesting to shoot on the format though as focus and sound will be much more critical, plus there will be lens changes to consider, so I’m sure I won’t be able to get through as many set-ups, but it will be valuable experience and worth the challenge I’m sure, given the final look that can be achieved.

A friend of mine in fact shot a feature on the 5D last summer which is looking great – here’s a link to the trailer:

I was keen to shoot another film fairly soon after “Broken”, as since “SHANK” I’ve spent so long focusing on developing feature projects that I haven’t allowed myself to do any shorts. It felt very good to get back into it last year and now I’m keen to keep up momentum!

Anyway, without further ado, here is the trailer for “Broken”, I hope you enjoy it:

From L to R, Paul Dudbridge, actor Jason Bailey ("Maria"), Chris Marshfield and Simon Pearce.

… And here we are enjoying a few drinks at the wrap party. I feel the need to add that I’ve come straight from work and have had no time to change, hence being the least smart of the four of us! Ah well.
